Juneau Crime Line board president Luke Thomas speaks to the board and community members during a monthly meeting Wednesday night to discuss the group’s local outreach efforts. The Crime Line group gathers anonymous tips about crimes in Juneau through their website juneaucrimeline.com, which they then pass along to the police. Board members and guests shared stories of finding used needles in public walkways, knowing loved ones who struggle with addictions and meeting people who witness crimes but don’t know how to report them safely. Board members said they want to involve more of the community in their efforts to create educational materials for Juneau’s youth, and to curb the effects of methamphetamine and heroin in Alaska’s capital. Anyone is welcome to attend the Juneau Crime Line’s monthly meetings. The board’s next meeting is at 7 p.m. June 8 inside JPD’s lobby area.
