The Center, which has been open for about a year, has 11 apartments for military veterans along with nonprofit organizations. Haines Tlingit master carver Wayne Price produced the two 12-foot totems in honor of Tlingit veterans Walter Soboleff (Raven/Dog Salmon) and Howard McRae (Eagle/Wolf). The screen/sign is called Warriors Spirit.
Price said, “When art is dedicated in this manner, presented with witnesses and dance, that is what makes it real, what gives it life. Now the art has life, and people will feel it.”
