Police calls for Sunday, July 15, 2018

Assault

• At 5:56 p.m. Thursday, the Juneau Police Department responded to the 3400 block of Foster Avenue to investigate the report of an assault. Alcohol was a factor. Investigation continues.

Burglary

• At 1:12 p.m. Wednesday, JPD responded to the 1400 block of Harbor Way to investigate the report of a burglary. Investigation continues.

• At 9:58 a.m. Thursday, JPD responded to the 9300 block of La Perouse Avenue to investigate the report of a burglary. Investigation continues.

Device misconduct

• At 4:28 p.m. Thursday, JPD responded to the 3000 block of Vintage Boulevard to investigate what they believed to be a subject driving under the influence. When officers arrived, Lt. Krag Campbell said, they found that the subject was not impaired but was operating his car without having an ignition interlock device (IID) installed. The driver, 30-year-old Brandon Gee, was required to have an IID, so police cited him for avoidance of an IID, which is a misdemeanor, Campbell said.

Domestic violence

• At 5:48 p.m. Thursday, JPD responded to the report of domestic violence in the Juneau area that involved vandalism. Alcohol was a factor. Investigation continues.

• At 8:08 p.m. Thursday, JPD responded to the report of an assault in the Juneau area. Alcohol was a factor. Investigation continues.

• At 9:54 p.m. Thursday, JPD responded to the report of an assault in the Juneau area. Investigation continues.

Drug misconduct

• At 12:22 p.m. Wednesday, JPD conducted a confidential investigation into a report of drug activity in the Juneau area.

• At 9:59 a.m. Thursday, JPD conducted a confidential investigation into a report of drug activity in the Juneau area.

Rescue

• At 2:10 a.m. Friday, JPD assisted Capital City Fire/Rescue in the rescue of an intoxicated man, 49, who had fallen into the Gastineau Channel from the downtown dock near the Marine Parking Garage. Three civilians jumped into the water to help the man who fell. Two of those civilians and the 49-year-old were taken to the hospital. Alcohol was a factor. Read more on page A3.

Shoplifting

• At 1:38 p.m. Thursday, JPD responded to the 3000 block of Vintage Boulevard to investigate the report of shoplifting. Investigation continues.

Theft

• At 6:54 p.m. Wednesday, JPD responded to the 200 block of Marine Way to investigate the report of a 29-year-old woman who reported the theft of her Samsung cellphone from her workplace. The woman recovered the phone, worth an estimated $490, from the suspect, who was identified as a 29-year-old man. Police forwarded a larceny charge on the suspect.

• At 9:54 a.m. Thursday, JPD investigated the report of a theft from the State Office Building in the 300 block of Willoughby Avenue. Investigation continues.

• At 6:56 p.m. Thursday, JPD responded to the report of a theft in the Juneau area. Investigation continues.

• At 4:52 a.m. Friday, JPD responded to Egan Drive to investigate the report of a 29-year-old man who reported the theft of his silver Samsung Galaxy Note 8 phone, worth an estimated $800. He also reported his Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch as stolen. Both items, he said, were stolen from his coat in the downtown area. Alcohol was a factor.

Wildlife violation

• On Thursday, Juneau-based Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited 60-year-old Hoonah resident Brian C. Bitz for operating a commercial gillnet during a closed period in district 15C. Bitz will be arraigned Aug. 16 in Juneau District Court.
