Portion of road near shooting range closed for winter

Tuesday was the last open day of the season for a portion of Montana Creek Road.

Starting at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range, Montana Creek Road will be closed until May 1 or when conditions allow, according to a public service announcement from the City and Borough of Juneau. CBJ doesn’t maintain the road beyond the rifle range. A new parking lot near the range was expanded to allow cross-country skiers who use the road a place to park.

The road is located in the Mendenhall Valley off Back Loop near the Mendenhall Campground and Skaters Cabin.

Those with questions are asked to call the Parks and Recreation Department at 586-5226.
