JUNEAU — U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan says he has not been contacted by Donald Trump’s presidential campaign about being a possible running mate and would have no interest in that position if it were offered.
In an interview Thursday evening, the Alaska Republican said he’s focused on serving the state and the country and the best way to do that is by focusing on issues like energy and the economy as a U.S. senator.
Sullivan, who plans to attend at least part of the upcoming Republican national convention in Cleveland, Ohio, intends to support Trump.
He says there’s a stark contrast between Trump and presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, saying Clinton has taken positions on issues like Arctic development and gun rights that would be problematic for Alaska.
But if there are areas where he disagrees with Trump, Sullivan says he will be clear with his constituents about those.
