Rates for water and wastewater rates are set to rise, and will go into effect soon.
As of July 1, rates for water will raise 6.5 percent and rates for wastewater will raise 8 percent. This comes after annual increases of the same percentage in 2015 and 2016, and the increases will continue next July.
The City and Borough of Juneau Assembly approved these annual increases in June 2014, after there had not been a rate increase since 2011.
Prior to July 1, Bill-Pay automated customers must upgrade their accounts to reflect the new rates. For those paying a flat rate, the rate increases from $31.89 per month to $33.96 per month for both residential and commercial customers. Wastewater flat rates will increase from $80.79 per month to $87.25 per month for both residential and commercial customers.
For residential and commercial water metered rates, the base pay will be $23.93 per month with $3.13 being charged per 1,000 gallons used. This is an increase of $2.11 per month and $0.19 per 1,000 gallons. For residential and commercial wastewater metered rates, the base pay will be $87.25 per month, charging $11.60 per 1,000 gallons. This is an increase of $6.46 per month and $0.85 per 1,000 gallons.
