‘Extra Tough’ runners complete 5K for mental health

Getting ‘extra tough’ on mental health.

Around 60 runners and walkers participated in the Extra Tough 5K & 1 Mile Mental Health Run on Saturday.

Brandon Ivanowicz finished first in the 5-kilometer race with a time of 19 minutes, 30 seconds. The race, which coincided with National Mental Illness Awareness Week, took place at Dimond Park and Kaxdegoowu Heen Dei (Brotherhood Bridge) Trail.

The run was sponsored by the local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, NAMI Juneau, and donated race-day proceeds to the second phase of Housing First. NAMI Juneau offers information, support and resources to those dealing with mental illness or their loved ones.
