JDHS JV and C teams earn road wins

JV play at Hoonah, C team travels to Petersburg.

The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears boys junior varsity and C teams had travel games last weekend in Hoonah and Petersburg, respectively.

The Crimson Bears junior varsity played a three-game series in the Icy Strait Tournament at Hoonah.

JDHS got warmed up with a 61-10 win over the Kake JV on Thursday.

Junior Kurt Kuppert led the Crimson Bears with 17 points, senior Snyder Zamora 11, sophomore Logan Carriker 10, sophomore Aaron Lazo-Chappell nine, sophomores Wrenz Del Rosario, Hunter Carte and Erik Thompson four each, and freshman Keaton Belcourt two.

JDHS led 26-0 after the first quarter, 42-0 at the half, and 55-2 starting the fourth quarter.

Xzanir Munoz-Torres led Kake with seven points and Daniel Bean-Willis three.

On Friday the JDHS JV fell to the Kake Thunderbirds varsity 55-41.

Belcourt led the Crimson Bears with 18 points, Kuppert 13, Carriker eight and Zamora two.

Kake took a 21-10 first-quarter lead, and were up 39-21 at the half and 44-28 after three quarters.

The Thunderbirds were led by Keonlay Jackson with 24 points, Aiden Clark added 12, Talen Davis and Zackery Hanson six apiece, and Rodney Moler and Josiah Jackson three apiece.

JDHS ended their weekend Saturday with a 65-29 win over the Hoonah varsity.

Zamora and Kuppert scored 14 points apiece, Carriker 12, Del Rosario 10, Belcourt nine, Carte and Thompson three apiece.

The teams were tied 8-8 after the first quarter, and JDHS led 22-18 at the half and 43-32 after three quarters.

Tucker Kelly led the Braves with 11 points, Gabriel Contreras added seven, Dietrich Lewis four, Gerred Garrison three, Tanner Howland and Riley Neal two apiece.

The JDHS C team played three games at Petersburg, opening with a 51-28 win over the Vikings JV on Thursday

Freshman Micah Nelson led the Crimson Bears with 13 points, freshman Zach Polasky 11, freshman Jordan Geary nine, sophomores Kordell Lim and Alejandro Lamas eight apiece and Bryce Hargood two. JDHS led 17-11 after eight minutes, 35-12 at the half and 40-21 after three quarters.

The Crimson Bears also defeated the Vikings JV 53-33 on Friday and 24-22 in a shortened 20-minute game on Saturday.
