The Juneau-Douglas High School boys took two out of the three relays and finished as the runner-up at Ketchikan Invitational Swim Meet on Friday at the Gateway Aquatic Center. Sitka won the meet with 127 points, while JDHS had 111 points, Ketchikan had 92 points and Thunder Mountain scored 89 points.
The JDHS girls also finished in second place behind Sitka. Grace Harang won the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley for the Wolves, while Tahila Gerger took home the 500-yard freestyle title for the Crimson Bears. It was a lifetime best for Gerger, who was able to barely beat Petersburg’s Alyssa Guthrie and Ketchikan’s Emma Campbell to the wall. Sitka ended up with 140 points, JDHS had 124 points, TMHS scored 95 points, and Ketchikan came in with 86 points.
It was a big meet for both the JDHS and TMHS divers. JDHS senior Cian Hart set a new school record in the 1-meter dive with 241 points. The tally was nearly double the score of his closest competition. The scores were much less lopsided for the girls. TMHS senior Amber Kahklen edged teammate Rosemary Kiessling for first place. Kahklen scored 150.75 points, Kiessling had 148.95 points and JDHS senior Karman Funderburk claimed third place with 140.30 points.
