Ketchikan wins Bill Weiss Invitational team title

Thunder Mountain High School senior Hunter Boyer won the 145-pound championship at the Bill Weiss Invitational Wrestling Tournament in Ketchikan on Saturday.

Boyer decisioned Thorne Bay senior Tell Tripple 3-1 for the title. JDHS freshman Steven Ireland Haight had a record of 0-2 in that bracket.

Ketchikan won the team title with 236.5 points, Craig 149, Mt. Edgecumbe 146, TMHS 123, Sitka 111.5, Haines 99, Wrangell 88, Metlakatla 82.5, Thorne Bay 63, Petersburg 60.5, JDHS 57, Hoonah 38, Klawock 33, Hydaburg and Klawock 0.

Thorne Bay sophomore Titus Tripple pinned JDHS junior Ethan Goebel for the 160-pound championship. Goebel posted a 3-1 record. JDHS junior Johnathon Schmitz went 0-2 here.

Ketchikan sophomore Vince Tenebro pinned TMHS junior Juan Fisher for the 113-pound championship. Fisher went 2-1 here.

Edgecumbe sophomore Arthur ‘Co Freitas won the 170-pound bracket with a 7-3 decision over TMHS senior Tyler Cole. Cole went 3-1 here. JDHS sophomore Seth Machakos went 2-2 here.

Edgecumbe senior Kole Lliaban decisioned TMHS sophomore Carl Tupou for the 220-pound title. Tupou went 2-1 here.

Ketchikan sophomore Max Collins took the 138-pound crown with a 2-1 decision over Mt. Edgecumbe senior Jeremy Roberts. TMHS junior Deven Mason placed third here with a record of 4-1 and JDHS sophomore Tucker Joeright went 2-2.

Ketchikan freshman Matthew Rodriguez won the 98-pound bracket with a pin over sophomore teammate Payton Stewart. TMHS freshman Connor Norman placed third with a pin over Ketchikan junior Connor McCormick. Norman went 3-1 here.

Sitka junior Joshua Goeden pinned Wrangell senior Chet Armstrong for the 182-pound title. JDHS senior Taylor Sutak placed third with a 3-1 decision over Metlakatla senior Alonzo Leisholmn. Sutak went 4-1 here. TMHS freshman Stone Arnce went 1-2.

Ketchikan freshman Brayden Linne won the 106-pound bracket with a 10-4 decision over classmate Patrick Rauwolf. JDHS senior Adam Murphy went 1-3 here.

Ketchikan sophomore Sean Tavares won the 120-pound title with an 8-6 decision over Mt. Edgecumbe senior Jeffery Slwooko. TMHS sophomore Jacob Tapia went 2-2 here, TMHS freshman Austin Jackson 3-2, and TMHS sophomore Caleb Deer went 0-2.

Klawock junior Brandon Evans won the 126-pound title with a pin over Wrangell sophomore Ian Jenson. TMHS freshman DJ Scott went 1-2 and JDHS freshman Christian Batac 1-2.

Hoonah’s Emmanuel Budke took the 132-pound bracket with a 10-9 decision over Sitka junior Caleb Suarez. JDHS freshman Festus LaChester went 1-2 here.

Craig senior Wyatt Patten won the 152-pound bracket with an 11-9 decision over Haines senior Zane Durr. TMHS senior Aiden Hildebrand went 1-2 and junior Alex Ocana 2-2 here.

Ketchikan senior Nate Fousel pinned Craig senior Tahren Torsey for the 195-pound crown. TMHS freshman Devin Locke went 1-3 here.

Metlakatla senior Brayden Blandov pinned Craig senior Liam Price for the 285-pound title.
