The Thunder Mountain High School softball team is already heading to state. But after two blowout wins this weekend, they’ll make the trip to the Fairbanks tournament with offensive momentum.
Thunder Mountain High School’s hot bats triumphed in wins Saturday, lifting the Falcons to wins over Sitka, 9-1, and Ketchikan, 11-1. A five-run first inning helped them to a win in their noon start against Sitka. Kyra Jenkins Hayes, Peyton Harp and Megan Dallas all had RBIs in the inning. TMHS tallied 13 hits and one home run in the game.
Falcons pitcher Nina Fenumiai allowed five hits and one run over five innings, striking out two and walking one.
TMHS triumphed in just five innings in their second game, beating Kayhi soundly on the back of a six-run fourth inning. Jenkins Hayes took to the rubber in this game, taking just two hits over five innings and striking out 12.
Juneau-Douglas also recorded two wins on the day, working a little harder than their crosstown counterparts in a 9-8 win over Ketchikan and a 9-6 win over Sitka.
Pitcher Leah Spargo recorded seven strikeouts against the Wolves.
