Thunder Mountain (3-2 overall, 0-0 conference) is coming off a tough, 35-0 loss to large school Lathrup last week and will look to reestablish their footing against conference opponent North Pole (1-4, 0-0) this weekend.
North Pole is currently last in the Southeast Conference and this is Thunder Mountain’s first conference game of the season as their opening game against Juneau-Douglas wasn’t a conference matchup.
Kickoff is at the Thunderdome tonight at 7.
Juneau-Douglas (2-3, 1-0 C) vs. Ketchikan (2-3 OA; 0-1 C)
Juneau-Douglas High School will host senior night against the Kayhi Kings on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Adair-Kennedy Field. The teams last played in Ketchikan — a four possession overtime struggle — JDHS won by a field goal.
The conference matchup will be a must win for both teams in establishing conference position over Thunder Mountain High School.
Cross Country:
Juneau Invitational
Juneau-Douglas and Thunder Mountain High Schools host their home cross counry meet this weekend at Savikko Park. Girls run at 10 a.m. and boys at 10:45 a.m. Times from the event will be used to determine teams for the regional meet in Sitka Sept. 24.
JDHS freshman Sadie Tuckwood will look to continue dominating the girls meet and Crimson Bears sophomore Arne Ellefson-Carnes will look to push Sitka’s state champion boys team with a top-3 finish.
Thunder Mountain junior Erin Wallace will attempt to close the gap on Tuckwood while senior boys team captain Jonah Penrose will look to break into the top five.
Swimming: Juneau meet
Three Southeast teams will make the trip to Juneau this weekend to compete in two swimming competitions, one Friday and another Saturday at Augustus Brown swimming pool. Juneau-Douglas and Thunder Mountain High School swim teams will compete with Petersburg, Ketchikan and Sitka in both swimming and diving competitions. The meet starts at 6 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Volleyball
Thunder Mountain (1-1 conference), Juneau-Douglas (1-1 conference)
The Falcons and Crimson Bears spikers face off in a crosstown Southeast Conference showdown Friday and Saturday. Both matches will be crucial to conference standings as the teams have each split games with conference opponent Ketchikan and have yet to face one another.
Friday’s game takes place at 8 p.m. at Juneau-Douglas High School while Saturday’s 6 p.m. matchup will be at Thunder Mountain.
